13 BARRELS STORY

13 Barrels Brewing Company is a locally-owned, family business, deeply rooted in the Bathurst community.
When creating 13 Barrels, we were inspired to combine the winning combination of: (i) an entrepreneurial spirit focused on enriching the economic development of our hometown, (ii) the breathtaking views of the Bathurst waterfront and very importantly … (iii) brewing exceptional, unique products using fresh, regionally sourced ingredients.

David Duncan Young, President

What’s in a Name?

“Why 13 Barrels Brewing”?
During prohibition years, circa 1920, our entrepreneurial ancestors operated a robust bootlegging trade in Northern New Brunswick.

Rumor has it that thirteen barrels of “demon alcohol” was seized by a law-abiding posse, transported to downtown Bathurst and ceremoniously dumped into the Bathurst Harbour.
During these dark times, our fore-fathers obviously appreciated a pint of good brew. In honor of those thirteen wasted barrels, 13 Barrels Brewing Company salutes our past and raises a glass to the innovative, creative and exacting science required to brew good beer.
